I accumulated another $25 in Amazon gift cards from Swag Bucks. I am not the biggest Amazon shopper…then again, I am not the biggest shopper in general. However, I do purchase something from Amazon about twice a year. I recently received an email from Amazon that my password had changed. I was alarmed since I had not changed my password. I was initially very fearful that someone had secured my debit card information and would be making purchases at Amazon. However, I recently “lost” the card previously used on my Amazon account.

I actually left it at the grocery store. When I called the store and the store confirmed that I left the card there, I called my bank and terminated the card. What appeared to be a “hassle” was actually a blessing in disguise. Thus, whoever hacked my account would be in for a surprise–he or she would not be able to purchase anything since the card was terminated.

As long as Swag Bucks is not hacked, I will be giving away $25 worth of gift cards on July 4th.

I have had someone use my Amex card to make several iTunes purchases. It was over $300!! But Amex is really on top of it and called me to ask about it b/c to them it seemed to be an “unusual sequence of transactions”. They have actually been really excellent in their security and consistently work to make sure no one gets my info. They took care of the whole thing and I didn’t have to take any further steps except authorize a new card! 1 entry

That is so scary! I have not been a victim. I am very cautious of where I put credit/debit information. I don’t shop online unless I am absolutely sure how secure and credible the site is. Most of the time, I purchase things with cash. I know it’s a hassle, but I like being sure.

Yes I have been a victim of identity theft. Twice!

First time, somebody bought a computer on m ycard in US (I live in Canada) and the HSN called me to verify it. I didnt give them any details other than confirm my name. they gave me my phone number, address and said my card was used to buy a computer – they are goign t oblock it and to clal my bank right away. I did and found whatthey said was true. got a new card.
3 months later, on my birthday, somebody transffered a balance of $3000 from a diff credit card onto my card. yikes!!! They called on phone, pretended to be me, gave my DOB, mentioned the last payment amuotn I made to the card (Hmmm!) and got this done.

So, yeah, been there! not happy!

  112. Geoff K says:

Yes, I once had my iTunes account hijacked and someone made close to $1000 in unauthorized charges on my account. Now I make sure to change my PWs regularly and to avoid using my credit card whenever possible when shopping online.

I have never been a victim of identity theft. My tip is to be careful who you give any information to. I need to get a credit card soon to establish a credit score, but I like using my debit card because my bank is good with alerting us of scams and placing a hold on my card if I make purchases that seem suspicious. I always like paying cash at restaurants because you never know what is going on with your card when its out of sight.

I think you got a Phisy email that is a scam. They email you tell you thing like you password has been change & then when you click the link they got you…they either then ask for all your info or download a virus on your computer. When in doubt don’t Click any link from an email like that. Go straight to your account yourself & change your password ASAp!
