$50 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway
Winner is Diane. She answered the question and has already claimed her prize.
As I mentioned in my post “Why I blog…” I really like giving away stuff. I feel such a sense of satisfaction. Thus, I am so happy to be able to giveaway more stuff. On account of my readers who have joined Swag Bucks through me, I have a $25 Amazon gift card to giveaway. I am going to match it to make it a $50 Amazon gift card.
My focus for this giveaway is the question: What is your financial strategy for gift giving for Christmas 2012?
I know it is almost a full year away, but the economy is not great. Thus, if you want to ensure that there are gifts for your loved ones, what is your plan? Mr. Super Frugalette and I agree on a “gift budget” at the beginning of the year and I have that amount of money to spend throughout the year on gifts–birthdays, Christmas, etc.
In case you are looking for other strategies, The Saved Quarter has the most in depth plan on obtaining a $100 Holiday. Melissa at Mom’s Plans blogged about 7 Reasons Why You Should Start Thinking about Holiday Christmas Gifts Now. The Family CEO actually blogged about how impressed she was with The Saved Quarter’s $100 Holiday. The Family CEO also mentioned using Swag Bucks to earn free Amazon gift cards too!

My sister and I won’t be exchanging gifts, and my parents know they will likely be getting a joint gift.
Last year was my first year that I didn’t pay a dime for Christmas gifts! I used Swagbucks all year long and I also won all of my Christmas gifts. Searching for great deals online and using Amazon g/c’s was a lifesaver as well. I will be doing the same thing this year!

I started shopping for Christmas 2012 during the sales after Christmas 2011! Other than that, I’ll just put money aside each month, so I’ll have enough saved up by the end of the year for gifts.
We did most of our Christmas shopping right after Christmas – got a lot of good deals!

My strategy for 2012 is to begin thinking about gifts in January so I can snatch up great deals online and in stores instead of waiting until November or December – and for larger-ticket items, I have set up email alerts on online deal sites to let me know when the prices have dropped. Besides that, I am trying to enter more sweepstakes for potential gifts to hopefully save even more. Thanks!

I too have my 2012 Christmas budget established and save 1/12 of that amount each month. I also keep my eyes open all year round for xmas gifts. And, I’ve got lots of plans for fancy gift baskets for everyone with 4 different, homemade organic jams (blackberry, plum, apricot and pear butter) and home made lemon bread. Since I grow all those fruits and make jam already, I’ll just make batches in fancy smaller jars, combine in a neat basket with bread and top with pretty bows…
I’m going to start by reviewing my Christmas card list. I’ll definitely keep the out of town relatives and special friends, but those folks that I’ve sent cards to for years and don’t hear from at all, off the list they go!
I’ll give gifts which are useful and exchange be exchanged …

My financial strategy for gift giving in 2012 is to focus on shared experiences instead of tangible (and often expensive) gifts. For example, my family might attend a live nativity followed by Christmas carols and homemade cookies and hot chocolate. This is much more economical and meaningful than the latest video game or electronic gadget.

My strategy for gift giving is not going to change much from what it has been, start ahead of time, do a TON of research to find the cheapest place to purchase and try to do all my shopping online.
My strategy for 2012 gift giving is to hopefully collect credit through group buying site referral bonuses and purchase nice presents at cheap prices.

My strategy is three things:
- first make a budget for the first time ever. I love giving but I have to discipline the total expense of it.
- second participate in giveaways! Because there are so many nice things to win out there and those are things you can regift provided it is a suitable gift
- third make gifts. I will be giving homemade things like this cute brownie mix for example. http://call-me-cupcake.blogspot.com/2011/12/edible-gift-idea-brownie-mix.html Isn’t it a great gift?

[...] to win a $50 Amazon gift card at Super Frugalette. This one ends January [...]
My strategies are:
1. Get as many Amazon GCs as I can, through Swagbucks and taking surveys. (And, with luck, winning contests like this one.)
2. Use my rewards credit card to get gift cards that I can use for shopping or gift outright.
3. Watch clearance tables, rummage sales and yard sales for items worth giving. (At the latter two I have found still-in-shrink-wrap items, and who’s going to know it came from a yard sale vs. a department store?)

I decide on what total amount I want to and can give. Then I make a list of my preferred charities and then make my decision. I keep in mind that if I did not give to a charity the previous year then this year they should receive.

Like last year, I’ve been saving ten bucks a week into an ING account just for Xmas. I do my shopping early (with a list and an eye on the sales), and put the transactions on my credit card for cash back rewards. Then, when it’s time to pay the credit card bill, I transfer money from ING into the checking account I use for that. In the meantime, it earns a little interest, and it’s a small enough amount each week that I don’t miss it.
I did join SwagBucks last year just before the holidays, but I’ll be using Amazon gift cards and such to gift my wedding party this fall.
My financial strategy is to win all our gifts.

What is your financial strategy for gift giving for Christmas 2012?
I am putting some money each pay check in my savings account so I don’t put anything on credit. I am also thinking about gifts so if I see a good sale that fits someone on my list I will buy early this year but stay with in budget.

I’m already searching the clearance racks when I’m in my favorite stores, I might as well keep an eye out for cute things that my friends and family might like. We draw names and concetrate on 1 gift instead of many. Our family has grown and if there were small children this would not work.

I think i’m going to start buying gifts early this year and for the hard to shop people, i’m giving gift cards.
My strategy will be to set aside money every payday for christmas gifts all year. Then at christmas time I will budget out what I can afford to buy, and when the money is gone, no more gifts.

I’m going to start shopping early and use coupons.
To be honest, no strategy. If I am working everyone gets gifts, if not, then only the kids.
I did very well this past christmas. I came late to the table with utilizing rebate sites like ebates and choozon. Im so excited to use them next year. I saved so much and now i know how to fulfill the list of everyone, just be doing a little research! Im a happy camper, bring on 2012!
I like the tip od starting the crafts early. I have a plan for next years gift ornament, and began collecting the things i needed when they went on clearence this past christmas!

Restrict gift giving to “something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read.”
From the 7 reasons blog post, I love the 90% sale on Restaurant.com. Easy to stock up all year long.
My financial strategy is to comparison shop always
I hope to set aside a bit of money each month leading up to Christmas, so the expense doesn’t seem as great when Christmas shopping time comes.

My financial strategy for 2012 Christmas giving is…
1. Grow Lemon Basil this summer. Dry Lemon Basil. Give lemon basil and lemon basil beer bread as gifts (cheap gifts!).
2. Try to get my shopping done before December (shop a little throughout the year, when I find things at good prices).
3. Buy from places that donate to Charity, like TheHungerSite.com store and the places listed at http://www.squidoo.com/shop4charity and http://www.squidoo.com/shop2fightslavery , or Ebay Givingworks or iGive. That way I can feel good that I’m giving back with my gifts. BUT…I also plan to not buy anything that’s pricier than at regular shops (unless it’s also fair trade) since that’s a bad use of money.
4. Depending on how we are doing, my husband and I may choose to postpone our gift giving to each other until after Christmas again (so we can use after Christmas Sales). Nice to have one less thing to shop for too.
My husband and I plan to go on a trip instead of buying more things for each other.

My strategy is swagbucks, I use it daily, and I’m also buying items and putting in my ‘gift closet’ throughout the year as I find deals, sales, etc., it also always keeps me ready for parties, birthdays and more without breaking the bank
I’m going to buy presents for my grandchildren, but am going to keep it reasonable, and buy throughout the year

Thanks for the giveaway…our financial strategy for gift giving / Christmas 2012 is to set aside between $50-$60 each month for use in buying gifts for family & friends; we can adjust that amount depending on our tax refund which we well be able to determine at the end of February when we file.
