Winner is Diane. She answered the question and has already claimed her prize.

As I mentioned in my post “Why I blog…” I really like giving away stuff. I feel such a sense of satisfaction. Thus, I am so happy to be able to giveaway more stuff. On account of my readers who have joined Swag Bucks through me, I have a $25 Amazon gift card to giveaway. I am going to match it to make it a $50 Amazon gift card.

My focus for this giveaway is the question: What is your financial strategy for gift giving for Christmas 2012?

I know it is almost a full year away, but the economy is not great. Thus, if you want to ensure that there are gifts for your loved ones, what is your plan? Mr. Super Frugalette and I agree on a “gift budget” at the beginning of the year and I have that amount of money to spend throughout the year on gifts–birthdays, Christmas, etc.

In case you are looking for other strategies, The Saved Quarter has the most in depth plan on obtaining a $100 Holiday. Melissa at Mom’s Plans blogged about 7 Reasons Why You Should Start Thinking about Holiday Christmas Gifts Now. The Family CEO actually blogged about how impressed she was with The Saved Quarter’s $100 Holiday. The Family CEO also mentioned using Swag Bucks to earn free Amazon gift cards too!

Last year was my first year that I didn’t pay a dime for Christmas gifts! I used Swagbucks all year long and I also won all of my Christmas gifts. Searching for great deals online and using Amazon g/c’s was a lifesaver as well. I will be doing the same thing this year!

  27. I am looking for new ways to save money as I may retire this year. When I retire I will have to live on 1/2 my income. This sounds like an awesome way to earn money for anything, not just Christmas presents.

I too have my 2012 Christmas budget established and save 1/12 of that amount each month. I also keep my eyes open all year round for xmas gifts. And, I’ve got lots of plans for fancy gift baskets for everyone with 4 different, homemade organic jams (blackberry, plum, apricot and pear butter) and home made lemon bread. Since I grow all those fruits and make jam already, I’ll just make batches in fancy smaller jars, combine in a neat basket with bread and top with pretty bows…

  134. Suzanne K says:

    - second participate in giveaways! Because there are so many nice things to win out there and those are things you can regift provided it is a suitable gift
    - third make gifts. I will be giving homemade things like this cute brownie mix for example. http://call-me-cupcake.blogspot.com/2011/12/edible-gift-idea-brownie-mix.html Isn’t it a great gift?
    :-)

  240. [...] to win a $50 Amazon gift card at Super Frugalette.  This one ends January [...]

  241. My strategies are:
    1. Get as many Amazon GCs as I can, through Swagbucks and taking surveys. (And, with luck, winning contests like this one.)
    2. Use my rewards credit card to get gift cards that I can use for shopping or gift outright.
    3. Watch clearance tables, rummage sales and yard sales for items worth giving. (At the latter two I have found still-in-shrink-wrap items, and who’s going to know it came from a yard sale vs. a department store?)

  242. Sylvie W says:

I decide on what total amount I want to and can give. Then I make a list of my preferred charities and then make my decision. I keep in mind that if I did not give to a charity the previous year then this year they should receive.

  243. Like last year, I’ve been saving ten bucks a week into an ING account just for Xmas. I do my shopping early (with a list and an eye on the sales), and put the transactions on my credit card for cash back rewards. Then, when it’s time to pay the credit card bill, I transfer money from ING into the checking account I use for that. In the meantime, it earns a little interest, and it’s a small enough amount each week that I don’t miss it.

I did join SwagBucks last year just before the holidays, but I’ll be using Amazon gift cards and such to gift my wedding party this fall.

  244. My financial strategy is to win all our gifts.

My financial strategy for 2012 Christmas giving is…
    1. Grow Lemon Basil this summer. Dry Lemon Basil. Give lemon basil and lemon basil beer bread as gifts (cheap gifts!).
    2. Try to get my shopping done before December (shop a little throughout the year, when I find things at good prices).
    3. Buy from places that donate to Charity, like TheHungerSite.com store and the places listed at http://www.squidoo.com/shop4charity and http://www.squidoo.com/shop2fightslavery , or Ebay Givingworks or iGive. That way I can feel good that I’m giving back with my gifts. BUT…I also plan to not buy anything that’s pricier than at regular shops (unless it’s also fair trade) since that’s a bad use of money.
    4. Depending on how we are doing, my husband and I may choose to postpone our gift giving to each other until after Christmas again (so we can use after Christmas Sales). Nice to have one less thing to shop for too.

Thanks for the giveaway…our financial strategy for gift giving / Christmas 2012 is to set aside between $50-$60 each month for use in buying gifts for family & friends; we can adjust that amount depending on our tax refund which we well be able to determine at the end of February when we file.
